Carrying Joyce's legacy forward through sustainable peace

The Lunds Peace Foundation is a grassroots initiative rooted in Joyce Voeller Pepos's compassion. We invest in food security, education, and safety so children in Rwanda and Tanzania can dream beyond survival.

What guides our work

  • Empowering mothers and guardians who hold families together.
  • Creating stable pathways through schooling, entrepreneurship, and safe shelter.
  • Building a foundation of basic peace so every child can plan for tomorrow.

Basic peace is the starting point. Every initiative is designed with the families we serve, matching their daily realities with long-term opportunity.

Our Purpose

A mission shaped by experience. A vision anchored in dignity.

We move at the pace of trust. Joyce's legacy taught us that big change begins with meeting basic needs and keeping promise after promise.

Our mission

The Lunds Peace Foundation empowers children, youth, and families—especially those from refugee and marginalized backgrounds—through education, mentorship, and skill-building. By pairing practical support with cultural pride and community collaboration, we create pathways from survival to stability.

  • Break cycles of scarcity by meeting basic needs first.
  • Strengthen local leadership so communities design their own future.
  • Preserve the legacy of Joyce Voeller Pepos through action that reflects her love.

Our vision

A world where every child can learn, grow, and thrive with dignity—rooted in basic peace, surrounded by resilient caregivers, and confident in their cultural identity.

We imagine homes that are safe, classrooms that are reachable, and communities that flourish together.

We see a generation of young leaders carrying forward Joyce's example—steady, hopeful, uncompromising in care.

Our Story

From a muddy family home to a movement for sustainable peace

LPF began in Desire's family home, where nine children found refuge with his mother after Joyce's passing. Today we translate that care into consistent food, education, and livelihood support across Rwanda and Tanzania.

What the work looks like right now

Each initiative is co-designed with the families we serve. We focus on simple systems that hold—steady meals, safe rooms, school fees paid on time, and practical businesses run by the very people who rely on them.

Education Support

  • Nine children currently receive tuition assistance, school supplies, and mentoring.
  • One beneficiary has already completed ordinary level secondary school; others are progressing through primary and lower secondary.

Shelter & Care

  • Foundation laid for a dedicated home in Karagwe, Tanzania, while interim housing, food, and clothing are provided every month.
  • Solar and hygiene upgrades ensure families experience stability, not just survival.

Livelihoods & Skills

  • Poultry farming and livestock projects deliver daily nutrition and local income.
  • Young people learn to manage assets that will sustain their households long after support ends.
Our Foundation

Values that keep us grounded as we grow

These principles shape every partnership, budget decision, and program milestone.

Transparency

We invite donors and community partners into the process—showing where funds go, what worked, and what needs adjusting.

Compassion

Every decision starts with listening. We move at the pace of the families who trust us with their stories.

Empowerment

Support is designed to end with self-sufficiency. We build capacity instead of dependency.

Community

We partner with local leaders, faith communities, and caregivers to design solutions that fit local realities.

Excellence

Small teams can still uphold high standards. We measure what matters and refine continuously.

Sustainability

Every project is evaluated for long-term viability—financially, environmentally, and relationally.
